Job Opening: Addiction Studies Instructor (Casper College)

Summary: 

Casper College is a community college that places an emphasis on teaching. Our full  time instructors teach the equivalent of 30 credit hours each academic year. The  Addiction Studies Instructor being sought for this position will teach a variety of  Addictions related courses per academic term. This position will require the individual  hired to engage in departmental duties, maintain office hours, attend faculty meetings, and serve on college committees as assigned.

Responsibilities:  

As a Casper College faculty member this position requires teaching college courses using a variety of teaching methods including face to face, digital formats and/or online  synchronous modalities; meeting all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; preparing  syllabi for all courses of study; preparing materials to adequately evaluate student  progress; reporting grades in a timely manner; maintaining accurate and adequate  records; and establishing regular office hours for student consultation.

Our faculty members perform other related duties as assigned which include but are not  necessarily limited to: advising students on academic curricula; serving on committees; participating in faculty meetings; providing recommendations for preparation of departmental or school budgets; participating in the development of school curricula; and adhering to all institutional policies.

The faculty member is expected to remain current in their field by reading current  literature, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional development  conferences.

 Essential Duties:  

  • Teach freshman and sophomore level course(s) in Addiction Studies and  Psychology;
  • Prepare syllabi and schedules for each course;
  • Develop lesson plans;
  • Procure appropriate materials needed for course instruction;
  • Reporting duties including student grade data, attendance, and any other pertinent information regarding student performance;
  • Utilize active learning strategies to assist the learner in meeting the course objectives.
  • Participate in all required meetings and events as requested by the department or administration;
  • Teach in different formats such as live, online, hybrid, or synchronous online;
  • Contributes to course, program-specific, and college-wide outcomes assessment with the Assessment Office;
  • Participates in activities related to the development, improvement of the Addictionology program;
  • Participates in faculty development and student recruitment;
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading  technical publications; and
  • Other duties as requested by department, school, or administration.

Work Environment:  

Typical work environment is a classroom and office setting requiring normal safety  precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday, however, occasional  early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Noise levels are usually minimal.

Physical Demands:  

Employee must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms.  Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Vision requirements are close up with the ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Addictionology, Addiction Studies, Psychology, Counseling, or  Social Work from an accredited institution. Must have significant coursework in  addiction studies.
  • Be licensed as a Licensed Addictions Therapist or equivalent in the applicant’s current state and eligible for licensure in the State of Wyoming within one (1) year from date of hire. License-eligible candidates will also be considered.
  • A commitment to teaching excellence and the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Demonstrated competency in teaching in a variety of formats (e.g., face to face, digital, online, and distance education course delivery).
  • A commitment to community college education.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Related teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience teaching and developing digital learning
  • 18 graduate credits in Psychology to allow for cross department teaching
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a residential and/or outpatient substance abuse treatment setting
  • Knowledge of the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission Standards
